High School Semester 12-Week Cycle

Ceiba’s longer-term High School twelve-week program is a deep immersion in community service, global citizenship, travel and adventure, and the 21st-century skills absolutely essential on the university and professional stages. While gaining the important experience of community service and developing your Spanish language skills in pueblitos around Antigua, you stay current with your curricular requirements of your home-school through online coursework. Not only do you have a fantastically unique international experience, you also graduate on time! With small groups, we are happy to work with special requests from your school and look forward to welcoming you to a wonderful, transformative time in Guatemala.

Service Learning

For three days per week for the length of your program, you serve with your chosen community service project. Through your sustained service work, you become a member of the community and share your learning with the folks that you regularly interact with throughout your time in Guatemala.

Accommodation and Meals

Ceiba’s comfortable and safe student house is located in the tranquil town of San Juan del Obispo, just outside of Antigua on the side of Volcan Agua. You are going to be working hard with your community service projects and taking on all kinds of adventures further out from Antigua, and we want you to have a home that you can truly call your own. All students live in the student house, along with a rotation of Ceiba staff, and have access to laptops and internet, entertainment areas, a gorgeous terrace with spectacular views of the Antigua valley, and your meals are prepared fresh by Ceiba’s own personal cook.

Spanish Language Instruction

Ceiba’s Spanish curriculum has been developed by a local Guatemalan teacher to include the ‘nuts and bolts’ language necessities like grammar but also focuses on the ‘real Spanish’, that which you need to have more informal conversations and understand Antigueño slang and expressions.

In addition, your Spanish development continues with two conversation hours per week with locals around San Juan del Obispo. Not only are these opportunities to hear more accents and local slang, you also learn stories from families that have been in the area for years. All conversation sessions will be organized by your Education Mentor. Finally, you have the chance to use your Spanish on the fantastic adventures around Guatemala. Learning in context and through experience gives you a unique opportunity to develop your Spanish that moves far beyond the classroom into the real world.

All transportation for the High School program is provided by Ceiba’s driver in our privately owned van.
